I had a weird experience at CVS last night. I stopped in to pick up a couple of items, and went to the checkout to pay. The person behind the counter asked the standard question of “do you have a care card?”.

I generally avoid signing up for any sort of rewards program big box stores offer because I don’t like giving them any more of my personal info than I have to. So I just simply said “No.”

This is where it started to get weird. The clerk then asked me rather accusingly “Well, why not?”. I just gave my usual answer of “I don’t like giving away my personal info if I don’t have to.”

The clerk then gave the typical response of “I used to think that way, but then i realized how much money I saved.”.

I forget what i said to that, i think something along the lines of “I believe strongly that I shouldn’t have to.”. Then it got really weird.

The clerk then asked me “Are you the CEO of a big corporation?”.

The what? Where the heck did that come from?! I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. And people wonder why I often prefer the self checkout…
